Zanzibars love a bright to medium light position, but they can also tolerate lower light conditions. So if you have a darker room in the home that needs some green, this might be the plant for you.

Watering
The usual selling point for these plants is that they only need a little bit of water, and not very often. Allow the soil to dry out between watering. If you’re not sure if the soil is dry, poke your finger a couple of cm’s into the top of the soil and see if it’s moist. If so, hold off watering. If the under soil is dry, you can go ahead and water it. It’s important to note that this plant will need a little more watering during the warmer months, and a little less during winter. As with all plants, drainage is important, so make sure when you do water your Zanzibar, the water has somewhere to go so it doesn’t sit at the bottom of the soil and cause the root rot or fungal problems.

Other helpful tips
The Zanzibar is a bulbus plant, so it has bulbs on the end of the roots which is why it’s able to store so much water. Make sure your Zanzibar has plenty of room in its pot so that it has a chance to grow. If you would like it to get bigger, gradually increase the size of the pot it lives in. Plants will only ever grow to the size their pot allows.
