Brisbane's Best Sustainable Florist

Born from an idea that flower delivery could be a little more reliable, a lot more sustainable and a heap more fun.

Poppy Rose has been delivering fresh, seasonal flowers since it was created in 2015. We have evolved into an established and reputable online and retail store and leading Brisbane florist. There's a few things we do to operate more sustainably, which you can read about below.

We dispose of our waste thoughtfully

We choose to seperate our green waste, soft plastics, cardboard and general recycling – minimising what goes to landfill. Any flowers that don’t make it into a bouquet are sent to our provider to be turned into a range of composted products.

We only buy what we need

We hand select our flowers at the local growers markets daily and only buy what we need, reducing our need for waste from the very beginning. We try and buy from local growers wherever possible – reducing emissions and supporting our Australian farms.

Our power is greener

Our power provider is owned by a 100% renewable energy company who own and manage hydro-plants and wind farms in New South Wales, Victoria and South Australia. They also offset all of the energy used by their customers by planting trees and other green initiatives around the world.

Minimal waste packaging

Our flowers are wrapped in a white Kraft paper which is provided by a local business. Our water bags are made from BOPP cello which can be recycled with your soft plastics. Our bouquets are tied off using a natural twine and we aim to only use cardboard and paper to package items for delivery. We cut our ribbons nice and long and choose coloured over branded so you can re-use them.

We like to pay it forward

We feel so fortunate to have the lives we do. With so many worthy causes out there, we like to give where we can. We like to spread the love, so at the end of each month we make a donation to a different cause.

What is sustainable floristry?

Sustainable floristry refers to an approach in the floral industry that prioritises environmental and social responsibility throughout the entire flower supply chain, from cultivation to design and delivery. The goal is to minimise the negative impact on the environment, support local communities, and promote ethical practices.

How we reduce our footprint in the floral industry.

Sustainable florists focus on creating arrangements with minimal waste. This may involve using reusable or compostable materials for packaging and avoiding the use of floral foam, which is not biodegradable and can be harmful to the environment.

Locally grown blooms

To reduce the carbon footprint associated with transportation, sustainable florists prioritise using locally grown and seasonal flowers. This not only supports local farmers but also ensures that the flowers are at their freshest and most vibrant. Sustainable florists strive to minimize waste by reusing materials, recycling when possible.
