The Story Behind "The Local"

Some of the best business decisions aren't decisions at all — they're conversations that happen to turn into something more. That's exactly how "The Local," our Father's Day hamper, came to be.

A Chance Visit

One afternoon, a customer named David wandered into the shop. He was after flowers for a friend, and as he browsed, he mentioned something that made us smile — he had no idea we were even here, tucked away in Norman Park, until someone from his work pointed him our way.

We got talking, and David mentioned he and a few mates run a brewery just down the road in Coorparoo. What started as small talk about flowers turned into a conversation about business, community, and — as these things tend to go for us — sourcing locally.

By the end of the chat, we'd told David we were on the hunt for a beer supplier for our upcoming Father's Day hampers. We wanted something better than the obvious choice of grabbing a slab from the nearest bottle shop. We wanted a story behind the bottle, the same way there's a story behind every stem we choose.

The Trip to 27 South

Not long after, Mandy and I made our way down to Coorparoo to meet the team at 27 South. They walked us through a full tasting of their beers, sent us out to their American-style food truck for a round of seriously good fries, and somewhere in between we got more than a few cuddles from their resident doggos. Between sips and belly rubs, it was clear their passion for supporting local businesses ran just as deep as ours.

We left with our stock for Father's Day — and a genuine friendship with a local business that shares the same values we do.

Why "The Local"

Poppy Rose has always been about sourcing thoughtfully and locally when it comes to flowers. "The Local" hamper is our way of bringing that same philosophy to a part of the market we don't usually get to speak to — dads, partners, and the men in your life.

Buying flowers for a man isn't always the obvious choice, and we know that. So we wanted to make sure that when you choose "The Local" for the father figure in your life, you know real thought went into it — from the blooms right down to the beer in the box, sourced from a brewery that's as local to us as we are to you.

Shop "The Local" this Father's Day — because it started with a local friendship, and we think that's worth celebrating.
